Susumu Matsushita was born in Nakano Ward, Tokyo in the year 1950. As a child, he enjoyed drawing pictures on the road. After graduating from junior high school he decided to go to a private vocational school to study industrial design. He later went on to join a design firm and studied graphic design from there. His work caught the eye of many companies. In 1986, he decided to launch his own design company, Susumu Matsushita Company. 

 

Matsushita is a graphic designer known for his airbrush works and his western-style comic characters. He is well-known for creating cover and concept arts for video games such as Adventure Island, Maximo Ghosts to Glory, and Willy Wombat. He is also known for creating mascots for the baseball team Orix Buffaloes, the Japanese theme park Space World, the convenience store chain am/pm, and the mascot Necky the Fox for the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. He was responsible for the character designs for the 1995 anime television series Bit the Cupid and the 1998 animated television series Monkey Magic.

 

Matsushita is married to jazz singer Naomi Grace and has an affinity for music.
